AI & Photo Processing

Grocer uses Smart Scan and text recognition to help turn grocery-list photos into editable shopping-list items.

Summary

Smart Scan sends photos you choose to our processing service to extract grocery items. Images are discarded after processing, are not used to train models, and are not used for facial recognition or identity matching.

What Grocer Accesses

Photos and camera

Grocer can access your camera or photo library when you choose to scan or import a grocery-related image, such as a receipt, handwritten list, recipe, pantry shelf, or fridge photo.

Text recognition

When Smart Scan is unavailable or not included in your plan, Grocer may use on-device text recognition to pull readable grocery text from the image.

Data Handling

Smart Scan Photos you submit through Smart Scan are sent to Grocer's processing service and a third-party AI provider to identify grocery items.
Retention Images are not retained after processing and are not used to train models.
No identity analysis Grocer does not use facial recognition, biometric analysis, biometric profiling, or identity matching.
Accuracy Smart Scan and text recognition results may be incomplete or inaccurate. Please review items before saving them.
